Job summary

Children's Hospital Colorado in Colorado Springs is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical support to patients and assist care providers with administrative tasks. The role is 0.8 FTE with 32 hours per week, in Briargate Outpatient Specialty Care, with shifts 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

The MA will prepare patients, conduct basic testing, collect vitals, assist in examinations, manage lab specimens, and support patient education and care coordination.

Qualifications

• Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• One year of experience in a direct health care role may substitute for graduation from a Medical Assistant program.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Responsibilities

• Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the examining room; providing inspection gowns and drapes; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
• Provides general office support including phone and fax management.
• Serves as the preceptor for new staff, including orientation, education, skill validation, tracking, assessment and monitoring progress.
• Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
• Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
• Verifies patient information by interviewing patient; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment. Reports areas of concern to next care provider.
• Supports patient care delivery by assisting health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens; performing basic testing; disposing of contaminated supplies; cleaning or preparing for sterilization of medical instruments; administering medications per policy and procedures; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies and other duties within scope.
• Completes lab test follow up and medical record documentation.
