Medical Assistant, Phlebotomist, Urgent Care

Position Overview: Provides clinical and clerical support to providers and members of the patient care team by performing back office, patient-related, and phlebotomy tasks to support high-quality patient care. Ensures smooth patient flow within the department and assists in implementing the medical care plan. Performs laboratory procedures in phlebotomy and specimen handling within the scope of practice. Uses education, technical skills, and patient interaction to gain confidence and cooperation from patients, families, and healthcare providers.

Ideal candidate will have completed a Medical Assistant program and hold a current CPT I license through the California Department of Public Health.

Job Description: This is a Limited Term position for 28 weeks.

Education:

• High School Diploma or GED
• Completion of a Medical Assistant program as specified by the Medical Board of California.

Certification & Licensure:

• CPT I - Certified Phlebotomy Technician I, California Department of Public Health
• BLS - Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

Typical Experience:

• At least 1 year of relevant experience.

Skills and Knowledge:

• Understanding of scope of practice for Medical Assistants in California.
• Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations.
• Knowledge of clinical protocols for vital signs and normal values.
• Knowledge of patient positioning and effective teamwork between front and back office staff.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Work Schedule: Days, Full Time, 10-hour shifts, variable days, as needed on weekends. Benefits included. Non-union, non-exempt, 40 hours/week. Limited Term (Fixed).

Employees may handle hazardous drugs per NIOSH guidelines and USP 800 standards.
