Job description

Preferred Primary Care Physicians currently has a fantastic opening for a Full-Time Phlebotomist/Medical Assistant at our office in Charleroi, PA. The ideal candidate will hold a Phlebotomy Certification or have at least 2 years of experience with blood draws. The candidate must also be willing to perform back-office medical assistant duties, including rooming patients, taking vitals, administering injections, and triage as needed.

Position Overview:

The primary purpose of the Phlebotomist role is to assist physicians and nurses with patient care, clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Responsibilities may include appointment scheduling and electronic chart management.

Essential Functions:
  1. Escort patients to and from exam or treatment rooms. Record all patient data prior to the physician or nurse seeing the patient, including vital signs, height, weight, allergies, medications, chief complaint, and reason for visit.
  2. Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as directed by the physician.
  3. Handle patient phone calls, including answering, returning calls, contacting pharmacies for prescriptions, and managing referrals as directed.
  4. Obtain necessary patient records, lab data, diagnostics, and consults for medical assessment.
  5. Collect blood specimens from peripheral sites following OSHA and safety protocols.
  6. Assist with exams and procedures as requested.
  7. Schedule tests, procedures, or follow-up appointments based on test results.
  8. Prepare, stock, and maintain exam and treatment rooms; order supplies as needed.
  9. Gather new patient information and test results.
  10. Assist with administrative tasks such as typing, faxing, and reception duties.
  11. Process instruments and equipment.
  12. Notify physicians of patient reschedules or no-shows.
  13. Assist with patient education activities, including distributing educational materials.
  14. Maintain confidentiality at all times.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned by the physician, nurse, or office manager.
Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED is required. Graduate from an accredited medical assistant program. While three years of experience in a medical practice setting is preferred, new graduates are encouraged to apply.
