Medical Assistant – Per Diem, Mobile Healthcare Services

Position Type: Per Diem FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Location: California-based position; Sacramento or Redding area preferred Travel: Required

Position Summary

Work Health Solutions is seeking a per diem Medical Assistant to support mobile healthcare services throughout California. This position supports a variety of occupational and public health services, including patient registration, vaccination support, testing services, basic clinical support, clinic setup and breakdown, and coordination of services at mobile and onsite clinic locations.

The ideal candidate is reliable, organized, flexible, and comfortable working in changing field environments. This role requires strong attention to detail, professionalism with patients and client representatives, and the ability to travel to different work locations as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Welcome patients and support patient flow during mobile and onsite healthcare events.
  • Register patients, verify patient information, confirm visit purpose, and assist with required documentation.
  • Support vaccination, testing, screening, and other mobile healthcare services as assigned.
  • Prepare patients for services by directing them through the appropriate process and assisting clinical staff as needed.
  • Take and record basic patient information, which may include vital signs, medical history, consent forms, and service-related documentation.
  • Assist healthcare providers and clinical staff during patient care activities.
  • Support specimen collection, testing workflows, vaccination clinics, and other public health or occupational health services.
  • Follow safety, infection control, and privacy protocols at all times.
  • Maintain accurate records and protect confidential patient information, including PHI.
  • Assist with clinic logistics, including equipment setup, supplies, patient flow, and end-of-day breakdown.
  • Track supplies, assist with inventory, and notify appropriate staff when supplies need to be replenished.
  • Travel to assigned work sites, which may include employer locations, public health sites, mobile clinic locations, or other field-based assignments.
  • Communicate professionally with patients, coworkers, supervisors, client representatives, and other healthcare personnel.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Completion of Medical Assistant coursework or training from an accredited or recognized program preferred.
  • Medical Assistant certificate preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS certification preferred or required as assigned by project.
  • Prior healthcare, occupational health, public health, vaccination, testing, or mobile clinic experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical records or patient registration systems preferred.
  • Current driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to assigned work locations.
  • Ability to work a flexible per diem schedule based on project and client needs.

Physical Requirements

This position may require standing for extended periods, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting and carrying supplies or equipment up to 50 pounds, setting up and breaking down clinic equipment, and performing repetitive tasks. The position requires sufficient mobility, dexterity, visual acuity, and hand-eye coordination to safely and effectively perform assigned duties in mobile and onsite healthcare environments.
