Job summary

Beth Israel Lahey Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support ambulatory care across our clinics. Under supervision, the MA performs direct patient care, assists with procedures, and supports care coordination to ensure a smooth daily workflow.

Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, completion of an accredited MA program, and BLS certification within 6 months. 0-1 years of related experience preferred; certification such as MA (Certified) or EMT/CNA/LNA preferred.

Qualifications

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant training program preferred.
  • 0-1 years of related patient care experience preferred or associate's degree in lieu of MA experience.
  • BLS certification within 6 months of hire or per department requirement.
  • Medical Assistant (Certified), EMT, CNA, or LNA certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet, room, and prepare patients for visits; take and document vital signs and intake information.
  • Support clinical procedures (e.g., EKGs, specimen collection, point-of-care testing).
  • Maintain clean, stocked, and ready exam rooms throughout the day.
  • Ensure accurate documentation in the EMR per clinical guidelines.
  • May assist with scheduling, check-in, referrals, and patient instructions as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with providers, patients and team members about delays, appointment needs, or follow-ups.
  • Follow all assigned workflows, safety protocols, infection control standards and clinical policies and department guidelines.
  • Support operational flow and provider efficiency by anticipating needs and adjusting to same-day changes.
  • Escort patients to labs or ancillary services, as needed.
  • May participate in specialized clinical workflows (e.g., prescription refills, prior authorizations, high-level disinfection)

Education

Experience
  • 0-1 years of related experience in patient care in a healthcare setting preferred or associate's degree or higher in lieu of Medical Assistant experience
Licensure, Certification, Registration
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 6 months of hire or per department requirement.
  • Medical Assistant (Certified), Emergency Medical Technician (EMT), Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), or Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA) certificate preferred
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
  • Ability to work in fast-paced ambulatory environment with diverse patient populations.
  • Demonstrates flexibility, professionalism, and a team-based mindset.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology, vital sign collection, and EMR systems preferred
Pay Range

$21.00 - $28.26

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law. Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
