Job Summary

The Medical Assistant assists in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician or nursing staff. Responsibilities include interviewing patients, measuring vital signs (pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height), recording or inputting information into patients' medical records, preparing treatment rooms, drawing blood samples, preparing specimens for lab analysis, and performing administrative duties such as ordering supplies, answering phones, and scheduling appointments. A high school diploma is required.

Essential Functions
  1. Obtain patient medical history necessary for diagnostic procedures.
  2. Properly identify patients and specimens, label specimens appropriately.
  3. Document patient care and data in records.
  4. Assist physicians with patient exams, including positioning, specimen collection, and non-invasive procedures.
  5. Perform invasive procedures under supervision.
  6. Obtain blood specimens via venous puncture, adhering to safety protocols.
  7. Retrieve and document test results and clinical documents.
  8. Maintain lab equipment quality and safety standards.
  9. Ensure proper handling of lab samples.
  10. Provide excellent patient satisfaction and customer service.
  11. Communicate effectively with patients and staff.
  12. Maintain professional standards and continuing education.
  13. Maintain a safe, clean environment.
  14. Practice fiscal responsibility and monitor supply levels.
  15. Assist with scheduling, reception, and computer work as needed.
  16. Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and hospital policies.
  17. Work in various clinic environments as needed.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Medical Assistant Certification required within 18 months of hire.
  • One year of Medical Assistant experience preferred; Phlebotomy experience preferred.

  • Maintain certifications and licenses (e.g., CPR, PALS, ACLS).
