Job summary

University Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care and perform clerical duties within a teaching hospital network in San Antonio. The role includes vital signs, specimen collection, administering medications and immunizations, and handling billing documentation.

Required: high school diploma or GED and MA training or certification; BLS card; 1 year clinic experience preferred; national MA certification preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• MA diploma or certification required.
• Current American Heart Association BLS Card.
• National MA certification preferred.
• One year experience in a clinic, doctor's office or ambulatory care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Cares for comfort and personal needs of patients.
• Provides direct patient care as needed.
• Collects, interprets and documents information related to patient care accurately and efficiently.
• Performs CLIA waived labs such as Accu-checks, Urine Beta HCG, Dipstick UA, etc.
• Takes vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, blood pressure).
• Collects blood, urine, stool and sputum specimens.
• Administers medications and immunizations per clinic policy.
• Documents and bills appropriately for nursing charges.
• Provides clerical support: lab requests, scheduling, referrals, and reminders.
