The Medical Support Specialist (MSS) is responsible for performing routine medical and testing procedures under direct supervision of the treating clinician, supporting in other areas of the facility such as registration and referral management. This role requires efficient and accurate delivery of patient care in a fast-paced environment, ensuring quality clinical care and an excellent patient experience through welcoming, respectful, and skillful interactions.

Responsibilities
  • Perform DOT and Non-DOT drug and alcohol testing
  • Prepare patients for physical exams, including vital signs and ancillary testing (vaccines, injections, phlebotomy, PFTs, audiogram, respirator fit testing)
  • Perform rapid screening tests (influenza, strep, mono, glucose, etc.)
  • Assist providers during examinations and treatments
  • Perform routine medical procedures as ordered, triage emergent patients
  • Prepare and assist with procedures and injury care
  • Apply bandages, dressings, splints as ordered
  • Dispense medications and DME per regulations
  • Complete quality assurance activities on equipment and devices
  • Maintain supplies, clean and stock exam rooms
  • Operate and calibrate medical devices, keep records
  • Report equipment issues or supply needs
  • Assist with patient flow and volume management
  • Inform patients of wait times
  • Handle clerical tasks, ensure accurate documentation
  • Perform front office duties: greet patients, check-in/out, answer calls, distribute results
  • Follow HIPAA and safety protocols
  • Attend staff meetings and training
  • Maintain a clean and organized facility
Qualifications
  • Vocational/Technical/Business School education or equivalent experience
  • Graduate of an accredited medical assistant program with externship preferred, or 1+ year patient care experience, or military medical experience
  • At least six months of medical assistant experience
  • Knowledge of medical procedures and terminology
  • Understanding of occupational medicine requirements (state-specific) preferred
