Description

Position Summary: Responsible for assisting physician in patient care, documentation of encounter, application of casts, suture removal, communication with physicians and staff and general housekeeping of the exam rooms. Handles physician messages.

Position Responsibilities/Standards
General
  • Attend department, clinic or company meetings as required.
  • Demonstrate sound judgment by taking appropriate actions regarding questionable findings or concerns.
  • Consistently work in a positive and cooperative manner with fellow staff members.
  • Respond to changing situations flexibly to meet current needs.
  • Attend required annual in-service programs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of all company policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to established facility safety requirements and procedures.
Specific Duties
  • Complete EMR intake at time of service.
  • Escort patients to room.
  • Review H&P for new patients and/or new problems.
  • Provide medical assistance as needed (casting, suture removal, injections, recording prescriptions).
  • Give instructions to patients regarding issues with casts.
  • Assist with physical therapy requests, off work requests, and school notes.
  • Document coding procedures performed and diagnoses determined by physician.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of coding on encounter form.
  • Receive and reply to medical-related messages and prescription requests from patients.
  • Communicate effectively with physicians and staff.
  • Comply with OSHA regulations for biohazardous disposal.
  • Order medical supplies as needed.
  • Assist with medical records filing when necessary.
  • Dispose of expired medications.
  • Facilitate scheduling outpatient testing and pre-certification for necessary tests.
  • Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms and clinic work areas.
Additional Duties
  • Travel to satellite offices if necessary.
  • Assist with scheduling outpatient testing and pre-certifications.
Other Duties
  • Obtain readings for MRIs and X-rays for physician review.
  • Contact ancillary services to align follow-up care.
  • Develop a streamlined process for patient communication after physician review.
Physical Requirements

Physical requirements for the position include the ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see up close and at a distance, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and/or feel objects. Must be able to climb, pull, push, and kneel. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift 25-50 lbs.
