SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Responsible for providing assistance with various health care services, for obtaining specimens, for conducting routine lab studies of specimens, and for assisting with administrative functions such as coordinating patient flow and scheduling appointments and phone messages. Serve as a trained preceptor for new medical assistant orientation and for instruction of medical assistant students.

Family and Community Medicine - Park Avenue is a dynamic and fast-paced outpatient clinic located in the heart of State College, PA, just one mile from Beaver Stadium and close to the vibrant Penn State University community. As the only Penn State Health clinic exclusively serving Family Medicine patients, we are proud to be a vital training site for our Family Medicine Residents, who provide the majority of patient care under the supervision of dedicated faculty. We see an average of 80 patients per day, offering a diverse and ever-changing clinical environment ideal for individuals who thrive on variety and teamwork. This is a unique opportunity to be part of an academic setting that blends community-based care with medical education and innovation.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES - The percentage of time spent performing essential functions is 95%. Qualified individuals must have the ability (with or without reasonable accommodation) to perform the following duties:
  • Record vital statistics or other health information.
  • Assess physical conditions of patients to aid in diagnosis or treatment.
  • Clean patient rooms or patient treatment rooms.
  • Interview patients to gather medical information.
  • Prepare patient treatment areas for use.
  • Give medications or immunizations.
  • Collect biological specimens from patients.
  • Control prescription refills or authorizations.
  • Explain technical medical information to patients.
  • Dispose of biomedical waste in accordance with standards.
  • Process medical billing information.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests to determine patient health.
  • Perform clerical work in medical settings.
  • Schedule patient procedures or appointments.
  • Administer basic health care or medical treatments.
  • Assist practitioners to perform medical procedures.
  • Inventory medical supplies or equipment.
  • Operate medical equipment.
  • Prepare medical instruments or equipment for use.
  • Apply bandages, dressings, or splints.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION(S):
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Must meet current eligibility to sit for the exam with attainment of certification or registration through one of the Penn State Health-approved agencies for Medical Assistants within 90-days of the employment date or current active status as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through one of the Penn State Health-approved agencies for Medical Assistant certification required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or must obtain within 6 months of employment date

  • Associates Degree or equivalent preferred
