Job summary

Henry Ford Health is seeking a Medical Assistant for our Oncology/Hematology clinic in Clinton Twp, MI. The MA will support providers, perform histories, vital signs, and assist in procedures in a fast-paced cancer care setting.

Full-time, 40 hours weekly, Monday–Friday 8:30 am–5:00 pm with no weekends. Training includes orientation and collaboration with specialist teams to deliver high-quality patient care.

Qualifications

• Graduate of Medical Assistant program with clinical externship (160 hours)
• Strong computer and keyboarding skills
• Excellent interpersonal and communication abilities
• Epic EMR experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Room patients, obtain medical histories, and document in EMR
• Measure and record vital signs
• Assist providers during procedures (e.g., biopsies) and label specimens
• Obtain bloodwork and administer injections
• Provide patient and family teaching
• Support post-surgical care and clinic operations
• Maintain patient flow and clinic charts
• Collaborate with gynecologic oncology MA for department coordination

Department Information:

We are seeking a compassionate and empathetic Medical Assistant to provide dedicated support to our cancer patients at our fast‑paced Oncology Clinic. As an MA, which is home to a collaborative team of 7 physicans and 5 Advanced Practice Providers (APP's).As an MA, you will be an intergral part of dedicated provider to deliver respectful, high‑quality, patient‑centered care throughout every step of the treatment journey.

The ideal candidate demonstrates respect, compassion, and integrity in all interactions and thrives in a fast‑paced, multidisciplinary oncology environment. Strong critical‑thinking and clinical problem‑solving skills are essential, as the MA will support patients requiring complex, multimodality cancer care. Additional hours may be available to provide coverage for vacations or staff absences.

Schedule & Work Environment

• Part‑time, guaranteed 40 hours per week
• Monday–Friday schedule; No weekends, Holidays, or Nights
• Typical hours: 8:30 AM– 5:00PM

Key Responsibilities

• Rooming patients, obtaining medical histories, and documenting in the electronic medical record
• Measuring and recording vital signs
• Assisting providers and PAs during procedures (e.g., biopsies), including specimen labeling and instrument handling
• Obtaining bloodwork and administering medications (injections)
• Providing patient and family teaching
• Supporting post‑surgical care
• Managing charts, patient flow, and general clinic support across both departments
• Collaborating closely with a full‑time MA experienced in gynecologic oncology

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the quality and compassionate care provided to patients.

These duties may include but are not limited to:

• The greeting and escorting of patients to the exam room,
• Obtaining medical histories,
• The measurement and recording of vital signs,
• Preparing patients for an examination/procedure,
• Assisting the provider during the examination/procedure.

Qualifications

EDUCATION REQUIRED

• High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred.
• Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills as related to ambulatory patient care preferred.
• Ability to problem-solve preferred.
• Possess effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred.
• EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED

• Current BLS-C upon hire or successful completion by end of orientation

Additional Requirements

• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hour minimum). OR
• Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without completion of a clinical externship but with a minimum one-year experience in clinical medical assisting within the past five (5) years. OR
• Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with a minimum of one year of experience in clinical medical assisting. OR
• Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). OR
• Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years. OR
• Military trained medical personnel with at least one-year clinical experience in clinical medical setting within the past five (5) years.

*Must Successfully complete all components of Ambulatory orientation as defined by Henry Ford Health.
