Job summary

The University of Kansas Health System is seeking a Medical Assistant to support ambulatory float roles across multiple KU health sites. The role emphasizes efficient patient flow, patient prep, vital signs, and assisting physicians and nurses in a fast-paced environment.

You will prepare patients for visits, document procedures, and help coordinate care with the care team. Strong customer service and basic clerical skills are essential for success.

Qualifications

• High School Graduate or GED.
• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program OR at least 3 years of a combination of Medical Assistant, Health Care Associate or clinic office job-related experience.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) certification within 14 days of hire.
• Basic typing and word processing.

Responsibilities

• Accurately schedules tests; obtains films and reports; and prepares laboratory specimens.
• Assists physicians and/or nurses with procedures and examinations as defined on competency checklist.
• Collaborates with health care team to coordinate and implement plans for patient care.
• Electronically submits prescriptions and refills to outpatient pharmacies.
• Maintains medical records and ensures required documentation is available in the medical record.
• Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of examination rooms; stocks supplies; checks logs and equipment.
• Greets patients; handles registration; scheduling; pre-certification of tests and medications; processes insurance forms; enters ambulatory care charges.
• Performs simple procedures and vital signs as directed by nurse or physician; documents in medical records.
