Job summary

IHA’s Outpatient Oncology & Infusion Center in Hartford, CT is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant who thrives in a collaborative healthcare environment and is passionate about patient care during cancer treatment. This full-time, day-shift role supports the oncology team and infusion center operations.

In this role you will prepare exam rooms, monitor infusion areas, record vital signs, manage patient flow, and document in the EMR with accuracy while upholding privacy and safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
• National Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of medical assistant experience in a physician practice, specialty clinic, oncology, infusion, or ambulatory setting preferred.
• Experience with Epic or other electronic medical records systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepare exam rooms, infusion areas, and clinical supplies for patient visits.
• Room patients and obtain vital signs, health histories, medication lists, and allergy information.
• Assist physicians, advanced practice providers, and nursing staff during patient visits and procedures.
• Coordinate patient flow to ensure a positive and efficient experience.
• Document clinical information accurately in the electronic medical record (EMR).
• Process laboratory specimens and assist with diagnostic testing coordination.
• Schedule appointments, follow-up visits, referrals, and diagnostic services.
• Provide compassionate support and education to oncology and hematology patients and families.
• Answer patient calls, relay messages, and communicate effectively with providers and care teams.
• Ensure compliance with safety, infection prevention, HIPAA, and quality standards.

What You'll Do
