The Medical Assistant functions as an integral part of the Clinical office staff where the Medical Assistants perform administrative and clinical duties. Responsible for obtaining intake information for a specific patient population, performing tasks and treatments as delegated by licensed personnel, and providing direct patient care as required. Responsible for scheduling tests and procedures ordered by the physician and providing limited patient education and instructions related to these tests and procedures.
Qualifications
Minimum Required: High School Diploma or GED. | Preferred: 7 - 11 Months equivalent experience.
Responsibilities
Patient Population (Clinical Only):
Engages in population-appropriate communication. Has knowledge of growth and development milestones and tasks. Gives clear instructions to patients/families regarding treatment. Involves family/guardian in assessment, initial treatment, and continuing care. Identifies physical limitations and deploys interventions when necessary. Recognizes and responds appropriately to behavioral health problems. Interprets population-related data and plans care accordingly. Responds to psychological, religious, or cultural needs. Performs treatments, administers medication, or operates equipment safely. Recognizes signs of abuse or neglect.
Obtains vital signs, EKGs, laboratory specimens, and other necessary information following Medical Assistant competencies and universal precautions.
Assists providers in documenting notes, orders, and prescriptions in the Electronic Medical Record, with documents pended for review, editing, and signing.
Prepares and maintains the clinic area, including cleaning, stocking examination rooms, daily setup, securing computer equipment, and maintaining diagnostic equipment.
Returns routine patient calls, such as prescription refills or pre-certifications, with proper documentation.
Coordinates ancillary services like diagnostic testing, hospital procedures, admissions, additional visits, and medical records.
Maintains a professional, positive, and cooperative demeanor with patients, staff, physicians, and management.
Ensures a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and regulations, maintaining confidentiality, and understanding legal responsibilities. Seeks knowledge of quality measures and patient experience.
