Job description

Job Title: Medical Assistant

UPMC is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the Washington OB/GYN team in Washington, PA. The role involves supporting staffing needs at three additional off-site offices in McMurray, California, and Waynesburg, with travel as needed.

Hours: Monday through Friday, primarily daylight hours, with occasional evening shifts from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm. No weekends or holidays required. The position includes both front and back office duties. Prior Medical Assistant experience is preferred.

Compensation: Salary and job title will be based on individual experience and education, in accordance with the Medical Assistant Career Ladder.

Responsibilities:
  1. Manage patient medical records in compliance with HIPAA and other regulations.
  2. Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referrals; complete forms; schedule appointments; verify insurance; prepare and manage charts.
  3. Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments, and maintain infection control standards.
  4. Organize patient flow, assist patients during visits, and collect patient information and vitals.
  5. Answer calls, provide patient education, and relay information as directed.
  6. Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and other lab procedures; assist physicians; document patient data.
  7. Ensure compliance with OSHA, CLIA, and state regulations; maintain confidentiality; adhere to hospital policies.
  8. Administer injectable medications and vaccines under physician supervision, when appropriate.
