Responsibilities:

The Medical Assistant assists physicians in assessing, examining, and treating patients. Responsibilities include managing patient flow, performing diagnostic procedures such as EKGs, phlebotomy, injections, and vitals. Acts as a liaison to physicians to ensure patient satisfaction. Maintains and orders supplies as needed.

• Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and staff in line with Jefferson's values.
• Escorts patients to exam rooms and verifies proper identification.
• Performs and documents vital signs, clinical care quality measures, and medical history information.
• Remains proficient with information technology systems within scope of practice.
• Assists physicians with examinations and diagnostic procedures; may perform EKGs and venipuncture/injections.
• Adheres to HIPAA privacy and security standards.
• Orders clinical supplies to maintain inventory and ensure smooth operations.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

• Excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Familiarity with medical office procedures.

Education & Experience:

• HS Diploma or equivalent required.
• Medical Assistant Certification must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
• BLS certification within 90 days of hire; American Heart Association preferred, Red Cross may be acceptable in some locations.
• Experience in healthcare setting preferred.
• For NJ Only: Graduate of an accredited post-secondary medical assisting program with at least 330 hours of instruction, including training in administering injections.
• For internal Einstein applicants: Current Einstein employees in a Medical Assistant role with a hire date before 7/1/2024 are exempt from certification when transferring within Einstein.
