Description

The Medical Assistant is a member of the healthcare team primarily responsible for providing support to physicians, nurses, and other licensed medical staff by facilitating efficient patient flow, assisting with various patient care activities, and performing related administrative functions. They ensure efficient patient flow, maintain neat, clean, and safe patient care areas, promote patient satisfaction through professional and friendly interactions, and safeguard patient confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Assure efficient patient flow through the site:
- Escort patients to exam rooms, identify patients with 2 identifiers, and prepare them for examination.
- Obtain accurate vital signs per organization standards.
- Document reason for visit and update/confirm allergies, smoking history, and pharmacy information.
- Promptly inform the provider and nurse of any significant changes in vital signs or symptoms.
- Set up equipment or supplies needed for visits.
- Clean and prepare exam rooms for the next patient.
- Respond to needs to expedite visits and maintain patient flow, prioritizing tasks accordingly.
Assist practitioners with medical and surgical procedures, such as:- Electrocardiogram (ECG), venipuncture, immunizations, specimen collection, and CLIA-waived testing as directed by the provider.
Provide high-quality care by:- Preparing and stocking exam rooms following sterilization protocols.
- Participating in environmental safety rounds.
- Maintaining vaccine/medication inventory.
- Monitoring and maintaining equipment and instruments.
- Ordering supplies and disposing of expired items properly.
- Following office opening and closing procedures.
Promote patient satisfaction by:- Interacting professionally and friendly with patients.
- Accepting delegated responsibilities positively.
- Offering assistance to colleagues.
- Participating in staff meetings.
- Communicating effectively with patients and team members.
Perform other delegated procedures as per specialty practice addendum.Perform all other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager.Qualifications
Required:
- Proof of meeting eligibility requirements for certification exams (AAMA, AMT, NCCT, NHA, NRCMA).
- Documentation such as a letter from the school or certifying body for recent graduates or non-certified MAs.
- Within first six months, complete one of the following certifications:
- CMA (AAMA), RMA (AMT), NCMA (NCCT), CCMA (NHA), NRCMA (NAHP).
All Candidates/Incumbents:
- High school diploma or GED.
- American Heart Association BLS/CPR certification.
- Signed acknowledgment of certification attainment requirement within 6 months.
- Strong computer skills.
Preferred:
- Completion of accredited MA training program.
- One to two years of ambulatory care experience.
- Experience with electronic medical records.
