The MetroHealth System in Cleveland is seeking a Medical Assistant for the West 150 Multi-Specialty site. This role supports physicians and clinicians by handling patient flow, basic care tasks, and clerical duties to ensure efficient visits.

Summary

Performs general clerical/reception duties for the MetroHealth Outpatient Surgery Center. Under the direction of a physician/provider and/or a licensed healthcare professional, performs patient care duties for infant through geriatric patients and facilitates efficient patient flow through numerous phases of a patient’s visit. Assists with medical tasks for patients as defined within the Ohio Administrative Code. Upholds the mission, vision, values, and customer service standards of The MetroHealth System.


Qualifications

Required: High school diploma or passage of a high school equivalency exam.



  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program and has work experience in a Medical Assisting or acute patient care capacity, which includes school-sponsored externships

  • Completion of a Medical Assisting-comparable military educational program for medics/hospital corpsmen with an honorable discharge (if applicable)


Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification for the American Heart Association (AHA) OR obtains within 90 days of hire.



  • Knowledge of basic medical procedures and medical terminology.

  • Possesses critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to work in a stressful environment and exercise sound judgment, as well as organizational, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills in a fast-paced environment with multiple providers.

  • Ability to work in assigned area(s) and any other clinic based on operational needs.

  • Basic computer and data entry skills.

  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

  • Demonstrates flexibility, initiative, and a strong work ethic.

  • Successfully passes the Medical Assistant pre-employment screening written test with a score of 80% or better and the pre-employment screening skills test with a 75% or better score. “Current MetroHealth MAs and SPOAs are exempt from taking the test.” All qualified applicants must pass the PSR pre-employment screening test with a score of 75% or better, and the post-employment test with a score of 80% or better.

  • Access to reliable transportation to travel to different sites within the Ambulatory Care Enterprise.

  • Ability to interact effectively with a wide range of cultural, ethnic, racial and socioeconomic backgrounds.


Preferred


  • 6 months of clerical experience and/or experience related to patient care.

  • Active certification as Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) through National Healthcare Association (NHA), Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) through American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) through American Medical Technologists (AMT).


Possesses one of the following


  • 1 year of work experience in medical billing, patient registration, and/or patient scheduling.

  • Education related to medical billing, patient registration, and/or patient scheduling from an accredited institution.

  • Possess a current certification as a Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) from the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM).


Experience


  • Calculating proper dosage and administering specific medications under direction of provider, particularly pediatric immunizations, and converting across measurement systems.

  • Performing point of care testing, CLIA waived testing, wound care, dressing changes, specimen collection, and phlebotomy.

  • Assisting with a variety of procedures and tests such as pulmonary function tests.

  • Experience with Epic In-Basket management.


Physical Demands


  • May sit, stand, stoop, bend, and ambulate intermittently during the day.

  • May need to sit or stand for extended periods.

  • See in the normal visual range with or without correction.

  • Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.

  • Ability to lift 250-300 pounds with assistance.

  • Ability to push/pull up to 500 pounds with assistance.

  • Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or body fluids.

  • Requires some exposure to chemicals and cleaning products.
