Overview
The Mohs Surgery Medical Assistant plays a key role in supporting the Mohs Surgeon during procedures, ensuring a smooth surgical workflow, maintaining a sterile environment, and providing post-operative care instructions to patients. This role involves assisting in patient preparation, procedural support, wound care, and documentation. The Mohs Surgery Medical Assistant is also responsible for maintaining surgical instruments, processing pathology specimens, and ensuring compliance with clinic policies and regulatory standards. Additionally, this role may require cross-training in the Mohs laboratory to assist with tissue processing as needed.
Schedule and Location
Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 6:30 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: This is a travel position between St. Peters, MO and Webster Groves, MO:
- Monday & Tuesday: St. Peters
- Wednesday & Thursday: Webster Groves
- Occasional Fridays during the cooler months

Responsibilities
Clinical Duties
- Prepare exam and procedure rooms for Mohs micrographic surgery and other visits, ensuring proper setup of instruments and efficient clinic flow.
- Assist the Mohs surgeon during all stages of the procedure, including pre-operative care, tissue preparation, hemostasis, wound closure, and post-operative care.
- Perform patient intake, including medical history, consent forms, surgical photographs, and pre-procedure concerns.
- Provide wound care instructions and educate patients on post-procedure expectations.
- Process tissue specimens for pathology evaluation according to protocol.
- Ensure proper documentation of procedures, medications, and follow-up in the EMR system.
Administrative & Patient Support Duties
- Schedule pre- and post-operative appointments and assist with patient inquiries.
- Confirm insurance coverage and obtain prior authorizations if required.
- Complete patient charting and documentation accurately.
- Manage pathology logs and act as liaison for pathology results delivery and communication.
Compliance & Documentation
- Record required information in compliance logs (pathology, biopsy, laboratory, temperature).
- Maintain compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards.
- Complete mandatory compliance training.
Cross-Training & Additional Responsibilities
- May cross-train in the Mohs laboratory for histotechnology components, as allowed by state CLIA requirements.
- May cross-train in General and Cosmetic Dermatology.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience: 1-2 years in dermatology or surgical setting preferred.
- Certifications: CMA, RMA, LVN, LPN preferred.
- Technical Skills: Experience with EMR systems, sterile techniques, and proficiency in MS Office.
- Soft Skills: Strong organizational, communication, multitasking skills, and professionalism.
Travel: Willing to travel to other clinic locations as needed.
Physical Demands
- Stand for extended periods, lift up to 25 lbs, operate medical equipment, and communicate effectively in a fast-paced environment.
