Job summary

NextCare Urgent Care is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant to support providers in exams, administer medications, and perform basic clinical tasks in a fast-paced urgent care setting. The position emphasizes patient care, vitals, labs, and front/back office coordination.

Education requires a high school diploma and an approved MA program, with alternative certification routes (CMA/AMT/NHA) for unapproved programs. This is a full-time, on-site role supporting a busy clinical team.

Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; completion of an approved Medical Assistant program.
If using an unapproved program, certification through CMA/AMT/NHA is required.
For all other states, same basic education: diploma plus approved MA program or certification path.

Primary Responsibilities

The Medical Assistant will be caring for patients in the following capacity:

Assists provider with exams (including patient vitals), procedures and other processes related to direct patient care under direct supervision of the Provider and within the scope of practice of a Medical Assistant.
Administers all forms of medications per policy and Provider direction and adheres to all safety protocols and procedures for medication administration.
Will perform blood draws as per direction of the Provider
May be responsible for urine collection for various testing to include employer drug screens
May perform splinting and casting
Conduct various type physicals such as sports physicals
Performs other related duties specific to urgent care such as ear lavage, wound care and oxygen administration.
Notifies the provider on duty promptly of all unusual patient occurrences including medication events on an incident report.
Promptly notifies the Clinic Manager of patient or employee safety concerns.
Follows guidelines and requirements of laboratory and clinical accreditation policies.
Must be proficient in EMR/EHR
Performs other related duties as assigned or described by Company policy.

Additional Laboratory Responsibilities May Include

Analytical Testing: Perform moderate-complexity clinical testing across authorized disciplines (e.g., Chemistry, Hematology, Urinalysis) in strict accordance with the laboratory's COLA-approved SOP manual.
Quality Control & Calibration: Execute and document daily instrument calibrations, quality control (QC) tracking, and corrective actions for out-of-range values prior to reporting patient results.
COLA Inspection Readiness: Maintain orderly, verifiable, and audit-ready logs for all pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical activities to ensure seamless biennial COLA on-site surveys.
Competency & Training: Participate in mandatory, documented competency assessments (semiannually in the first year of employment, and annually thereafter) covering all six CLIA-mandated elements.
Proficiency Testing (PT): Successfully test and document blind proficiency testing samples exactly like patient specimens, adhering to strict anti-commingling regulations.
Specimen & EMR Processing: Accession, process, centrifuge, and evaluate sample integrity, reporting data accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
Critical Value Notification: Promptly recognize critical, life-threatening results and follow immediate notification protocols to the attending healthcare provider.

They ensure the clinic and front reception area is running smoothly and patient flow at the optimum, as well as provide patient care services in the back office medical setting, which will meet the specific needs of the patient.

Essential Education, Experience And Skills

ARIZONA

Education: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; AND

Completed an APPROVED (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.

Completed an UNAPPROVED (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification through one of the following:
American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - administers the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam and certification; or
American Medical Technologists (AMT) -- provides the Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) exam and certification to individuals who have completed the AMT criteria; or
National Healthcareer Association (NHA)-administers the Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) exam and certification

All Other States

Education: Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent; AND

Completed an APPROVED (accredited) Medical Assistant training program.

Completed an UNAPPROVED (non-accredited) Medical Assistant training program AND a National Certification through one of the following:
American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) - administers the Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) exam and certification; or
