Job summary

UAB Medicine in Birmingham is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the Cardiology Specialists of Birmingham. The role involves assisting with patient examinations and treatments under physician supervision, taking vital signs, and preparing treatment rooms.

You'll perform basic clerical tasks, manage supplies, and help maintain a clean, organized clinical setting across satellite offices and UAB St. Vincent's Birmingham. A current BLS credential is required within 30 days of hire.

Qualifications

• BLS Provider within 30 days of hire required (AHA or ARC accepted).
• Medical Assistant preferred.
• Education or experience may be used in lieu of licensure where applicable.

Responsibilities

• Assist with examination and treatment of patients under physician supervision.
• Interview patients, measure vital signs, and prepare treatment rooms.
• Perform basic clerical duties (answering phones, filing, record-keeping).

Job Description

Assist with the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.

• Assist with treatments ordered by physician as supervised by physician or registered nurse. Perform select clinical duties.
• Interview patients, measure vital signs, and record information on patients' charts. Prepare treatment rooms for examination of patients.
• Perform basic clerical duties including answering the phone, maintaining records, and filing.
• Perform basic materials management functions to include ordering and stocking of supplies. Assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association OR American Red Cross accepted.
• Medical Assistant preferred.

Education

• High School diploma equivalency OR 1 year of applicable cumulative job specific experience required.
• Note: Required professional licensure/certification can be used in lieu of education or experience, if applicable.
