Medical Assistant

Medical Assistants are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus

The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled clinical professional who works within the scope of practice and in alignment with standards of excellence and quality. The Medical Assistant provides indirect and/or direct patient care under the direction of the provider.

Under the provider's direction, the Medical Assistant contributes to completing the patient's chief complaint, including but not limited to respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and temperature, along with documenting patient/family needs. They identify significant changes in patient condition through data collection and report them to the provider. They understand and adhere to the legal responsibilities within the Medical Assistant role.

They participate in planning and implementing patient care within their scope of practice, troubleshoot issues, and escalate problems as needed. They demonstrate standards of excellence in all interactions, both internal and external.

Within scope and state guidelines, they administer ordered medications and vaccines via oral, injection, or topical routes as directed. They may perform casting duties according to state regulations and certification requirements.

Accurate documentation in EMR is essential. They manage My Chart requests, incoming patient calls, and in-basket messages under provider instructions. Additional duties include ordering supplies, tracking referrals, labs, and diagnostic tests, and disposing of contaminated supplies.

Licensing/Certification

Required within 12 months: Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assisting), Registered Medical Assistant (American Medical Technologists), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (National Healthcareer Association), or National Certified Medical Assistant (National Center for Competency Testing). If unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable within the same timeframe.

Preferred upon hire, but required prior to independent patient care: BLS Basic Life Support certification.

Education

High school diploma preferred; vocational/technical degree in medical assisting is advantageous. Enrollment in an approved Medical Assistant program is required within 30 days of employment.

Minimum Experience

At least one year of healthcare experience or 24 months of clerical physician practice experience preferred.
