The Medical Assistant works under general supervision to perform a variety of procedures. Responsibilities include filling in and performing various patient-specific duties, maintaining knowledge of assigned clinical tasks, and staying updated on any changes within the scope of practice. The Medical Assistant may be asked to float between departments and travel periodically. They are responsible for processing outside referrals, including HMO and PPO, maintaining accurate records, and notifying concerned parties of outcomes.

Required Skills
  • Ability to address biophysical, psychological, educational, and environmental needs of patients and their significant others when administering care, considering patient age.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, including walking and providing physical assistance to patients.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, infection control, and patient safety measures.
  • Current AHA BLS certification required.
  • Adaptability, accuracy, good visual acuity, and motor coordination.

Required Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
  • For practice acquisitions, competency validation by a PIH Health supervising physician is required.
  • At least 10 years of experience with the specific physician/practice.
  • Minimum six months of front and back medical office experience required; two years preferred.
  • Valid California Driver’s License required for those in the Medical Assistant Float Pool.
  • Ability to maintain composure in high-activity situations, with excellent communication skills and adaptability to various roles.
