Major Responsibilities
- Prepare and room the patient for exams by obtaining vital signs and gathering pertinent health information, including chief complaint, allergies, and medications. Monitor and complete Clinical Integration/Quality Improvement measures, notifying clinicians of opportunities within scope.
- Perform laboratory procedures such as strep tests, wound cultures, and specimen collection, using aseptic techniques and infection control guidelines.
- Assist physicians or Advanced Practice Clinicians with procedures like pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, and colposcopy.
- Administer routine medications under physician or approved standing orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, vitamins, and topical agents.
- Follow through with test requests, care algorithms, appointments, and referrals. Refer questions to RNs and physicians as appropriate, relaying information to patients.
- Communicate effectively with the healthcare team and patients to ensure smooth clinic operations and accurate information exchange.
- Perform additional clinical support tasks such as suture removal, throat/nose cultures, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitors, and prescription refills, under supervision.
- Provide care appropriate to the patient's age, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles and assessing patient data to meet age-specific needs.
Licensure or Certifications
LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse license issued by the state and BLS certification from the American Heart Association, obtained within 45 days unless exempted.
MA: BLS certification from the American Heart Association, obtained within 45 days unless exempted.
Degrees
LPN: Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
MA: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or two years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last five years.
Experience Required
No prior experience necessary.

- Perform routine and complex technical skills within scope after demonstrated competency.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for positive patient and team interactions.
- Proficient in computer skills, including electronic medical records systems.
- Strong customer service skills to support a positive patient experience.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, and reach throughout the workday.
- Lift up to 35 pounds independently; for heavier lifts, use patient handling equipment with assistance.
- Assess situations individually for patient lifting/movement needs.
- Functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch required; fine motor skills necessary.
- Exposure to hazards such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood, and body fluids; protective gear required.
- Operate all necessary equipment for the role.
