Job Description
Actual compensation offered within the pay range of $21.10 - $31.55 for an MA or $23.20 - $34.80 for an LPN will be based on factors such as qualifications, skills, relevant experience, and training.
Major Responsibilities:
- Assist with the provision of patient-centered care in an outpatient clinic. Perform various clinical support tasks under supervision within the organization's established scope of practice guidelines to ensure efficient patient flow.
- Prepare and room the patient for exams by obtaining vital signs and gathering/documenting/updating pertinent health information (e.g., chief complaint, allergies, medications).
- Perform laboratory procedures (e.g., strep test, wound culture, specimen collection) using principles of aseptic technique and infection control guidelines.
- Assist physicians/advanced practice providers (APP) with procedures and surgeries such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
- Administer routine medications under physician/APP orders, including immunizations, antibiotics, vitamins, and topical agents.
- Provide basic patient instructions on routine tasks or skills. Follow through with necessary procedures, test requests, care algorithms, appointments, and referrals. Refer questions to registered nurses and physicians/providers as per scope of practice and relay information back to patients.
- Communicate with physicians and healthcare team members to ensure smooth clinic operations and make adjustments as needed. Effectively communicate accurate and timely information with patients.
- Perform additional clinical support tasks based on specialty and competencies, such as suture removal, straight catheterization, audiograms, laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitor application, etc., under supervision.
Licensure or Certifications
LPN: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license issued by the state and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association (AHA), to be obtained within 6 months unless exempted.
MA: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program and BLS certification, to be obtained within 6 months unless exempted.
Degrees
LPN: Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
MA: Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Basic keyboarding and typing skills.
- Experience with age-specific needs and behaviors if working with diverse patient age groups.
- CPR certification required upon hire or within 60 days. Non-certified MAs must obtain certification within one year from approved certifying bodies.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Successful completion of clinic-based training.
- Ability to work with all personnel levels and under stressful conditions.
- Frequent standing and sitting, possible lifting and assisting patients.
- Ability to lift up to 35 pounds; patient handling equipment to be used for heavier lifts when necessary.
