Major Responsibilities:

  • Prepares and rooms the patient for exam by obtaining vital signs and gathering/documenting/updating pertinent health information (i.e., chief complaint, allergies, and/or medications). Monitors and completes Clinical Integration/Quality Improvement measures with notification to clinician for opportunities within their scope.
  • Performs laboratory procedures (e.g., strep test, wound culture, specimen collection) using principles of aseptic technique and infection control guidelines.
  • Assists the Physician/Advanced Practice Clinician (APC) with procedures such as pelvic exams, allergy scratch testing, EMG, cautery, colposcopy, etc.
  • Administers routine medications under Physician/APC orders or approved standing orders/protocols, including immunizations, antibiotics, vitamins, and topical agents.
  • Follows through with necessary procedures or test requests, care algorithms, appointment scheduling, and referrals. Refers questions to Registered Nurses and Physician/APC per scope of practice and relays information back to the patient.
  • Communicates effectively with the healthcare team and patient to ensure smooth clinic flow and accurate information exchange.
  • Performs basic and advanced clinical support tasks based on specialty and competency, such as suture removal, laboratory procedures, phlebotomy, EKG, spirometry, Holter monitoring, and prescription refills, under supervision.
  • Provides care appropriate to the patient's age, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development, and interpreting data to meet age-specific needs, as per departmental policies.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • LPN: Active license issued by the state and BLS certification within 45 days unless exempted.
  • Medical Assistant: BLS certification within 45 days unless exempted.

Education and Experience:

  • Medical Assistant: Completion of an accredited program or 2 years full-time experience as a Medical Assistant in the last 5 years.
  • LPN: Completion of an accredited Practical Nursing program.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to perform physical tasks, lift up to 35 pounds, and use protective equipment as needed.
  • Exposed to hazards including biological, chemical, and mechanical risks.

Schedule: 8–9-hour shifts during standard business hours (Mon-Fri 6:45am-5:30pm).
