Job summary

Hillcrest HealthCare System in Owasso, OK is seeking a day shift, full-time Medical Assistant (MA) to join a clinic-based care team. The MA will support patient care and administrative tasks under physician or APP supervision.

Responsibilities include managing medical history in EMR, taking vital signs, preparing rooms, and coordinating referrals, prescriptions, and tests. BLS is required within 14 days of hire.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic EMR and Microsoft Office knowledge.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire.
• Associate’s degree preferred.
• Graduate from an accredited MA program or 2 years MA experience preferred.
• Current CMA or RMA certification preferred.

Responsibilities

• Enters, maintains, and reports medical history, coding, and claims in an EMR.
• Greet patients, escort to exam rooms, take vital signs, and gather medical information.
• Sterilizes and prepares instruments; disinfects rooms; ensures privacy, comfort, safety, and hygiene.
• Maintains inventory and stocks supplies, instruments, and equipment for exam rooms.
• Handles referrals and insurance authorizations; coordinates prescriptions, x-ray, or lab orders.

Day‑in‑the‑Life of a Medical Assistant

The Medical Assistant provides superior patient care and performs administrative and delegated clinical tasks that support patients in a clinic‑based environment as part of a care team led by the physician and/or advanced practice provider.

• Enters, maintains, and reports all medical history, medical coding, and files claims using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
• Supports patient visits by greeting patients, escorting them to exam rooms, taking vital signs, and gathering applicable medical information to support the reason for the visit and recommended treatment.
• Sterilizes and prepares medical instruments; ensures exam rooms are disinfected, orderly, and ready for incoming patients; provides patients with privacy, comfort, safety, and hygiene.
• Assists in maintaining inventory and stocking supplies, instruments, and equipment for all exam rooms.
• Maintains appropriate paperwork for inventory control and reviews orders received for completeness.
• Handles referrals and insurance authorizations, and coordinates prescription, x‑ray, or lab requisitions with pharmacies, hospitals, and labs.

Job Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Basic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Microsoft Office knowledge.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Preferred Job Requirements

• Associate’s degree.
• Graduate from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist school/program or two years of MA experience.
• Current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
