Job summary

PIH Health Downey Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant for a six-month temporary assignment in Downey, CA. The MA will support clinical and administrative tasks under supervision, including patient intake, specimen collection, immunizations when delegated, and care coordination.

The ideal candidate holds a BLS certification, a Medical Assistant program certificate, and experience with EHR systems. Flexibility to float between clinics and travel to sites is required.

Qualifications

• Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
• Certificate of successful completion of venipuncture training from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• High School Diploma or GED (or equivalent).
• Experience in front and back medical office functions.
• 2+ years preferred when existing within a practice acquisition context.

Responsibilities

• Assist with patient intake and clinical procedures.
• Perform venipuncture, specimen collection and point-of-care testing.
• Administer medications and immunizations when delegated.

Job description

This is a temporary position for approximately six (6) months.

The Medical Assistant (MA) performs clinical and administrative duties under the direct supervision of a licensed practitioner and within the scope of practice established by California law, organizational policies, and delegated clinical responsibilities. The MA supports safe, efficient, and patient-centered care by assisting with patient intake, clinical procedures, specimen collection, point-of-care testing, medication and immunization administration (when delegated and authorized), documentation, care coordination, and other assigned clinical support functions. The MA is responsible for maintaining competency in assigned duties and adhering to current organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements. Based on operational needs, the Medical Assistant may be required to float between clinic locations and travel to assigned sites. The MA may also perform designated administrative functions, including coordinating referrals and authorizations, maintaining accurate documentation, and communicating with patients, providers, payers, and other departments to facilitate continuity of care.

Required Experience

Minimum Qualifications

• (BLS) Basic Life Support Current certification from the American Heart Association
• Certificate of successful completion of venipuncture (phlebotomy) training from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• DL NUMBER - Driver License, Valid and in State (Float Pool Medical Assistants Only)
• High School Diploma or GED
• Other Graduation certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant program
• 6 months Experience performing front and back medical office functions. Clinical externship experience completed as part of an accredited Medical Assistant program will be considered qualifying experience when verified through official program documentation.
• 5 years Experience required in circumstances of a practice acquisition. A competency validation must be completed by a PIH Health supervising physician whose practice we are acquiring.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years Experience performing front and back medical office functions in an ambulatory or physician practice setting.
• Experience working in a multi-specialty ambulatory healthcare setting.
