Job summary

Twin County Regional Healthcare in Galax, VA is seeking a Medical Assistant Float to join our in-person team. This full-time role supports multiple clinics, performing routine clinical and administrative tasks under supervision, including patient assessments, specimen collection, and documentation.

The work schedule is Monday through Friday with occasional weekend shifts. The position requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and graduation from an accredited medical assistant program.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; MA program completed.
  • BLS certification required within 60 days of hire; CMA/CCMA/RMA preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, in-person clinic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Performs basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection.
  • Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition.
  • Documents patient care provided and maintains chart accuracy.
  • Maintains equipment, supplies, and examination areas.
  • Handles administrative duties including scheduling and registration.

Medical Assistant (MA) Float

Schedule: Full-time 40 hrs. per week | Monday through Friday, an occasional Sat & Sun 8am -2pm

Job Type: In-person float between clinics

Job Location: Galax, VA

Hourlyrange: $18.53 - $22.88p/hr.

Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant Float will perform routine clinical and administrative duties in support of the assigned area or office. Under the supervision of a physician or nurse, assists with performing patient assessments and treatments.

  • Performs basic diagnostic procedures and specimen collection.
  • Monitors and communicates changes in patient condition.
  • Documents patient care given.
  • Maintains equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning, and troubleshooting.
  • Maintains examination areas.
  • Performs administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry, and patient registration.

Required Skills:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.

Minimum Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required;
  • A graduate of an accredited medical assistant program or equivalent is required.

Required Licenses/Certification:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained within 60 days of hire.
  • The following certifications are required: CCMA, CMA, or RMA.
