Medical Assistants are eligible for a $5,000 sign-on bonus
The Medical Assistant is a multi-skilled clinical professional working within the scope of practice and in alignment with standards of excellence and quality. The Medical Assistant provides indirect and/or direct patient care under the provider's supervision.
Under the provider's direction, the Medical Assistant contributes to completing the patient’s chief complaint (including respirations, blood pressure, pulse oximetry, height, weight, and temperature) and documents patient and family needs. They identify significant changes in patient condition through data collection and report these to the provider. They understand and adhere to legal responsibilities and requirements within the Medical Assistant role.
They participate in planning and implementing patient care within the scope of Medical Assisting practice, troubleshoot issues, and escalate problems appropriately. They demonstrate standards of excellence in all interactions with internal and external customers.
Within scope and state guidelines, they administer ordered medications and vaccines via oral, injection, or topical routes as directed. They may perform casting duties according to state regulations and certification requirements.
Accurate documentation in EMR, managing My Chart requests, incoming patient calls, and in-basket messages under the provider’s instructions are also part of their responsibilities.
Additional duties include ordering supplies, tracking referrals, labs, diagnostic tests, and disposing of contaminated supplies.
Required within 12 months of employment: Certified Medical Assistant (American Association of Medical Assisting), Registered Medical Assistant (American Medical Technologists), Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (National Healthcareer Association), or National Certified Medical Assistant (National Center for Competency Testing). If unable to obtain MA certification, an Assessment-Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE) is acceptable within the same period.
BLS Basic Life Support is preferred upon hire and required prior to independent patient care.
High school diploma or equivalent, with enrollment in an approved Medical Assistant program required within 30 days of employment.
One year of healthcare experience or 24 months of clerical physician practice experience preferred.
