Position Title: Medical Assistant Position Code: MA-XXXX

Reports to: Clinic Manager/Nursing Director

Position Purpose

All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision to be among the kindest, highest quality health systems in the country.

Key Responsibilities

• Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner.
• Responsible for maintaining all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures.
• Escorts patients to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital signs, history, and reason for seeking care.
• Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due.
• Schedules/confirms appointments.
• Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff.
• Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider.
• Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations.
• Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens; performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests; may perform venipuncture.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma or Equivalent.

• Attended an approved medical assistant training program; diploma or transcripts on file from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools.
• Attended an unapproved training program and successfully passed the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute; certification file required.
• Directly supervised by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours prior to February 2000; letter must be on file.
• Completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States with copy of certificate on file.
• Completed an unapproved medical assistant training program and was employed as a medical assistant after program completion before February 2000.

Licensure: None

Certification: BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross

• Knowledge of/able to use basic medical terminology.

Preferences

Experience: One to two years’ experience as a medical assistant in a clinical outpatient setting.
