Job Summary

Reports to the Practice Manager or Team Leader, the Medical Assistant provides clinical support to the Physician and mid-level providers. The Medical Assistant provides instructions to patients as directed by the providers. The Medical Assistant is also responsible for compliance with all OSHA/CLIA and HIPAA regulations and ensuring completion of all duties vital to business operations.

Job Details

Type: Regular

Hours: 40 per week

Responsibilities
  • Escort patients to exam rooms, interview patients, measure vital signs, and document all information in patients' charts.
  • Document patient history accurately.
  • Provide clear instructions to patients, address concerns, and document appropriately.
  • Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during examinations.
  • Perform nursing procedures under supervision.
  • Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, perform basic tests, and administer medications as directed.
  • Ensure all patient information is complete and accurate.
  • Maintain supplies, clean and disinfect exam rooms, and sterilize equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, CLIA, and HIPAA regulations.
  • Maintain logs and checks, assist with patient requests, and manage communication with patients and staff.
  • Handle referrals, outpatient test scheduling, and precertification.
  • Process and file patient information accurately and timely.
  • Interact with billing and other departments as needed.
  • If acting as a scribe, follow established guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Clinical Requirements

Vary by practice but may include:

  • Obtaining vital signs, assisting with exams and procedures, administering injections and immunizations, performing EKGs, collecting samples, and managing patient calls.
Minimum Education & Experience
  • High School Diploma/G.E.D.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • At least one year of experience as an MA, CNA, or related healthcare role, or completion of externship/internship, EMT program, or relevant degree.
Licenses & Certifications

Preferred: Credential such as CCMA, CMA, RMA, ARMA, or EMT.
