Job Description

General Summary:

The Medical Assistant III is responsible for daily clinical work in the outpatient/primary care setting in accordance with the Ambulatory Medical Assistant Scope of Practice. Depending on location this position may be responsible for daily scheduling and flow of the ambulatory center. The MA III collaborates with the department leadership to ensure the nursing assistant/medical assistant workflow effectively meets patient care demands. The MA III serves as a resource to the clinical team and facilitates a strong culture of teamwork amongst the NA/MA team. In addition, the MA III assists Physicians, and other staff under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician.

Essential Job Functions

  • Depending on location, performs phlebotomy and specimen processing as directed by delegating provider.
  • Aligns to specific or multiple divisions.
  • Administers, including but not limited to, intramuscular injections, subcutaneous injections, intradermal skin testing, topical medications, ophthalmic drops and nasal spray.
  • Depending on location, performs ECGs, places Holter monitors and downloads telemetry data. Responsible for ECG and Holter program for a specific location.
  • Works in conjunction with other staff to maximize clinic flow.
  • Intervenes appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Documents data and changes in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Provides assistance and or back up support for administrative tasks including but not limited to scheduling patient visits and performing basic “check-in, check out” activities.
  • Obtains measurements, patient history and other intake activities.
  • Stocks and maintains the clinic area including ordering of supplies as needed. Leads inventory management, not limited to placing orders. Manages par levels, expiration or refrigeration logs, environment of care rounds/management and/or supply distribution.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization if required as part of the responsibilities of the role.
  • Depending on location, directs High Level Disinfection and conducts quality control for ENT scope cleaning in accordance with defined HLD processes
  • Completes trainings and education including but not limited to Healthcare Provider CPR.
  • Completes and/or collaborates with leadership for weekly ambulatory schedule of NA/MA assignments and makes adjustment to effectively meet patient care demands.
  • Rounds on all ambulatory clinics to ensure all clinics are running efficiently.
  • Collaborates with leadership to ensure overall ambulatory compliance with safety and regulatory guidelines.
  • Orients new NA/ MA staff and contingency staff.
  • Participates in Department Process Improvement activities and/or unit-based or organizational-wide committees.
  • Other job functions as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • High school diploma required.
  • Successful completion of a formal Medical Assistant program.
  • Possesses 5 or more years of relevant clinical experience.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred but not required.
  • Some college, preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Excellent communication/listening skills. Substantial interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with pediatric patients, families, physicians, nursing and other allied health and medical center personnel.
  • Proficient computer skills and aptitude.
  • Problem solving ability and able to handle multiple priorities. Ability to handle stressful situations.

(BLS) - Basic Life Support - American Heart Association

Pay Range

$21.00-$32.55 Hourly
