Job summary

Centura College in Newport News, VA is seeking a part-time Medical Assistant Instructor to deliver classroom and lab instruction. The role includes curriculum support, scheduling, and maintaining equipment, with an emphasis on student engagement and learning outcomes.

Qualified candidates will have at least 3 years of relevant clinical experience, applicable certification (RMA/CCMA/CMA), and current BLS. A 5-day paid instructor training program is provided; travel may be required occasionally.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 3 years related practical work experience in the subject matter.
• RMA, CCMA, or CMA certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) current or within 6 months of hire date.

Responsibilities

• Teach classes on a regularly scheduled basis assigned and create a welcoming environment for students that is conducive to learning.
• Assist with curriculum development, course materials, class scheduling, and equipment/tools maintenance.
• Maintain neat and orderly classroom or lab; manage attendance and records and submit reports as required.
• Notify Supervisor of any issues warranting attention and use retention techniques to support student success.
• Attend and participate in in-service training, faculty meetings, and mandatory sessions.

About the Role

TheMedical Assistant Instructoris responsible for providing subject matter instruction to students in a classroom or lab setting. This position is required to teach assigned classes as scheduled or as assigned, and perform administrative functions related to teaching.

Key Duties

• Teach classes on a regularly scheduled basis assigned and create a welcoming environment for students that is conducive to learning.
• Assist Program Coordinator, Campus Director of Education, or Campus Executive Director in developing curriculum, preparing course materials, class scheduling, and maintaining tools and equipment used by students.
• Maintain a neat and orderly classroom or lab.
• Establish and maintain academic and attendance records for student files. Medical Assistant Instructor
• Submit attendance, grades, student evaluations, and all other reports/documentation to Supervisor or appropriate personnel as required by established procedures.
• Notify Supervisor of any current or potential issues which warrant immediate attention.
• Utilize proven retention techniques approved by the school to assist students.
• Complete performance-based teacher education modules as assigned by Supervisor, based on outcomes of classroom observations, instructor evaluations, and student completed surveys.
• Attend and/or conduct in-service training, faculty meetings or other mandatory meetings.
• Assist with the department equipment and supplies inventory and submit replenishment requests to Supervisor or appropriate personnel.
• Alert Supervisor to student absences, especially on first, third and fifth absence occurrences.
• Perform and complete other tasks that may be assigned by the Supervisor.

• Must have a minimum of 3 years related practical work experience in the subject matter.

• Excellent computer skills are required with proficiency in MS Office applications including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, and Teams.
• Exhibits a positive, team-oriented attitude by remaining flexible and available to work outside of scheduled hours when needed, as directed by the Supervisor.
• Ability and willingness to travel locally or overnight occasionally for business.
• No prior teaching experience required. We provide a 5-day paid instructor training program to help you successfully transition into the classroom.
