Job description

Description

Medical Assistants are unlicensed assistive personnel who work under the direct supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner. They participate in patient care in ambulatory settings, recognizing normal and abnormal signs and symptoms, and provide support during life-threatening emergencies. MAs may perform basic administrative, clerical, and technical supportive services when conditions regarding supervision, training, specific authorization, and records are met.

Work is assigned and reviewed by the office manager or team leader. Incumbents will independently coordinate and prioritize tasks and protocols established by the department. Ability to work with minimal supervision is required.

Salary Range: $28.06 - $37.02 hourly

Qualifications
  1. Documentation of completing a medical assistant program from an accredited school (ASSCS, ACCET, CAAHEP, or ABHES)
  2. Documentation of national certification (CMA, NCCT, or AMT)
  3. Completion of a medical assistant program and at least 10 hours of training in administering injections, skin tests, venipuncture, and related procedures
  4. Knowledge of normal and abnormal symptomology and life-threatening medical problems
  5. Ability to administer CPR
  6. Ability to skillfully administer oral, IM, and subcutaneous medications
  7. Ability to perform venipuncture adhering to OSHA PPE safety requirements
  8. Ability to obtain accurate vital signs and manage drug refills
  9. Ability to assist in medical emergencies and office procedures
  10. Proficiency with computerized patient care systems
  11. Knowledge of medical terminology
  12. Interpersonal skills for courteous interaction with patients, families, staff, and physicians
  13. Effective verbal communication skills
  14. Skill in performing EKGs
  15. Ability to assist in staff orientation
  16. Ability to order and maintain medical supplies
  17. Adherence to policies, procedures, and communication standards
  18. Organizational skills for task management and patient flow
  19. Scheduling skills for patient referrals
  20. Flexibility to work in both back and front office roles
  21. Knowledge and ability to assist with procedures like audiometry, spirometry, skin removals, ear lavage, colposcopies, and sigmoidoscopies
  22. Ability to perform quality control and waived patient sample testing
  23. Knowledge of safety requirements for handling biohazardous specimens
  24. Understanding of MSDS and emergency treatments
  25. Willingness to work overtime in emergencies
  26. Punctuality and good attendance
  27. Excellent customer service skills
  28. Ability to lift, push, or pull 30 lbs or more
  29. BLS certification from American Heart Association or Red Cross
