A leading healthcare institution is seeking Medical Assistants to support patient care in ambulatory settings. The role involves recognizing medical signs, assisting in emergencies, and performing administrative tasks. Candidates must possess relevant certifications and strong interpersonal skills.
Medical Assistants are unlicensed assistive personnel who work under the direct supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner. They participate in patient care in ambulatory settings, recognizing normal and abnormal signs and symptoms, and provide support during life-threatening emergencies. MAs may perform basic administrative, clerical, and technical supportive services when supervision, training, authorization, and record-keeping conditions are met.
Work is assigned and reviewed by the office manager or team leader. Incumbents will independently coordinate and prioritize tasks and protocols established by the department and should be able to work with minimal supervision.
Salary Range: $28.06 - $37.02 hourly
1. A medical assistant diploma or certificate from an accredited program (ASSCS, ACCET, CAAHEP, or ABHES) OR national certification from CMA, NCCT, or AMT OR completion of a medical assistant program plus at least 10 hours of training in injections, skin tests, venipuncture, and inhalation medication administration.
2. Knowledge of normal and abnormal symptomology and life-threatening medical conditions.
3. Ability to administer CPR.
4. Ability to skillfully administer oral, IM, and subcutaneous medications.
5. Skilled in venipuncture adhering to OSHA PPE safety requirements.
6. Ability to obtain accurate vital signs and manage medication refills.
7. Ability to assist in medical emergencies and office procedures.
8. Proficiency in using computerized patient care systems.
9. Knowledge of medical terminology.
10. Interpersonal skills to interact courteously and compassionately with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
11. Effective verbal communication skills.
12. Skill in performing EKGs.
13. Ability to assist in staff orientation.
14. Ability to order and maintain medical supplies.
15. Ability to follow policies, procedures, and work standards.
16. Organizational skills for smooth workflow.
17. Ability to schedule referrals to specialists.
18. Flexibility to work in both back and front office settings.
19. Ability to assist with procedures like audiometry, spirometry, skin removals, ear lavage, colposcopies, and sigmoidoscopies.
20. Ability to perform quality control and waived tests.
21. Knowledge of safety procedures for handling biohazardous materials.
22. Familiarity with MSDS and emergency treatments.
23. Willingness to work overtime in emergencies.
24. Punctuality and good attendance.
25. Skills in maintaining a positive work environment and delivering excellent customer service.
26. Ability to lift, push, or pull 30 lbs or more.
27. BLS certification from AHA or Red Cross.
