DescriptionMedical Assistants are unlicensed assistive personnel who work under the direct supervision of a physician or nurse practitioner. They participate in patient care in ambulatory settings, recognizing normal and abnormal signs and symptoms and providing support during life-threatening emergencies. MAs may perform basic administrative, clerical, and technical supportive services when supervision, training, specific authorization, and records are met.
Work is assigned and reviewed by the office manager or team leader. The MA will independently coordinate and prioritize tasks and protocols established by the department. They must be able to work with minimal supervision. This position requires some floating between our Dreamworks and Hollywood Primary Care Clinic.
Salary Range: $28.06 - $37.02 hourly
Qualifications- Documentation of completing a medical assistant program from an accredited school (ASSCS, ACCET, CAAHEP, or ABHES) OR documentation of national certification (CMA, NCCT, or AMT) OR completion of a medical assistant program plus at least 10 hours of training in injections, skin tests, venipuncture, and administration of medical inhalation.
- Knowledge of normal and abnormal symptomology and life-threatening medical problems.
- Ability to administer CPR.
- Ability to skillfully administer oral, IM, and subcutaneous medications.
- Ability to perform venipuncture adhering to OSHA PPE safety requirements.
- Ability to obtain accurate vital signs and manage drug refills.
- Ability to assist in medical emergencies and office procedures.
- Proficiency in using computerized patient care systems.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Interpersonal skills to interact courteously and compassionately with patients, families, staff, and physicians.
- Effective verbal communication skills.
- Skill in performing EKGs accurately.
- Ability to assist in orientation of new staff.
- Ability to order and maintain medical and clinical supplies.
- Adherence to policies, procedures, and communication standards.
- Organizational skills to facilitate smooth work and patient flow.
- Ability to schedule referrals to specialists.
- Flexibility to work in both back and front office settings.
- Knowledge and ability to assist with procedures like audiometry, spirometry, skin tag/mole removal, ear lavage, colposcopies, and sigmoidoscopies.
- Ability to perform quality control and waived patient sample testing.
- Knowledge of safety requirements for handling biohazardous specimens.
- Understanding of MSDS and emergency treatments.
- Willingness to work overtime in emergencies.
- Punctuality and good attendance.
- Skill in maintaining a harmonious work environment and providing excellent customer service.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, or carry 30 lbs or more.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
