Job summary

Sutter Health is seeking a Limited Term Medical Assistant to support clinical and clerical tasks within the patient care team in California. The role includes back-office duties, phlebotomy, and helping implement the medical plan of care.

You will work day/evening shifts with a 40-hour work week, Monday–Friday and some weekend coverage, in a non-exempt, full-time capacity. Requirements include MA diploma or GED and CPTI certification, with BLS provider.

Qualifications

• HS Diploma or GED completed.
• Graduate of Medical Assistant program; diploma due within 90 days.
• CPTI Certification and BLS Healthcare Provider.
• At least 1 year of recent relevant experience.
• Knowledge of CA MA scope, medical terminology and vital signs.

Responsibilities

• Provide clinical and clerical support to the patient care team and providers.
• Assist with back-office tasks and phlebotomy to support patient care.
• Help ensure smooth patient flow and adherence to the medical plan of care.
• Perform phlebotomy and specimen handling within scope of practice.
• Collaborate with health care team and educate patients and families.

Position Overview:

Provides clinical and clerical support to providers and members of the patient care team(s) by performing a variety of back office, patient-related and phlebotomy tasks supporting the delivery of high-quality patient care. Helps ensure smooth patient and workflow within the department and assists the patient care team in implementing the medical plan of care. Performs laboratory procedures in phlebotomy and specimen handling to preserve specimen integrity that are in the scope of practice for the phlebotomy field of work. Integrates education, technical competence, and patient interaction skills to gain confidence and cooperation from the patient, their family/support group, and other healthcare providers.

Job Description:

This is a limited term position for 26 weeks

EDUCATION:

HS Diploma: High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)

Other: Graduate of a Medical Assistant program (Must present diploma within 90 days)

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

CPTI-Certified Phlebotomy Technician I

BLS-Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

1 year of recent relevant experience.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of scope of practice for Medical Assistants in the State of California.

Knowledge of medical terminology and abbreviations.

Knowledge of clinical protocols for vital signs.

Knowledge of normal values for vital signs (Blood Pressure, Pulse, Respirations, Temperature).

Knowledge of medical positioning for patients.

Knowledge of effective teamwork dynamics between front and back-office staff.

Sufficient knowledge of medical terminology and the English language, to understand and communicate in a reasonable manner, the duties of the position.

Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Pay Range is $32.21 to $45.09 / hour

The posted pay range is based on the position's primary work location. Candidates who reside and work outside of that location may be subject to a different pay range based on their work location.
