Job summary

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center's Center for Digestive Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to support the Gastroenterology, Hepatology and obesity medicine clinics. The role performs vital signs, prepares exam rooms and assists with procedures in an outpatient setting.

You will handle scheduling, billing assistance, and insurance forms while maintaining sterile technique and delivering coordinated patient care across a busy team.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
• Experience in office or outpatient ambulatory care setting preferred.
• Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work well as part of a team.
• Willingness to participate in evening, weekend and holiday coverage.

Responsibilities

• Greets, checks in patients and notifies the appropriate provider; prepares patient, room and equipment for procedures and exams.
• Takes and records vital signs.
• Recognizes and treats emergency patients as a priority and assists with examinations and treatments.
• Handles patient calls, schedules appointments and procedures with medical professionals.
• Registers new patients and establishes medical records.
• Prepares patient billings and assists with insurance forms.
• Collects and processes routine laboratory specimens.
• Operates and maintains clinical equipment.
• Maintains aseptic technique including sterilization, disinfection and disposal of contaminated material.
• Cleans, wraps and autoclaves instruments and cares for supplies and equipment.
• Performs other duties as required.
