Job summary

Akron Children’s Hospital is seeking a Medical Assistant to provide clinical and administrative support under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse. The role is full-time with an onsite schedule and a $2,000 sign-on bonus.

Responsibilities include patient prep, vitals, phlebotomy, data collection for care, specimen handling, and accurate EPIC documentation. Strong knowledge of medical terminology and MS Office/EPIC is preferred.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of an approved Medical Assistant Program, EMT or Paramedic Program is required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
  • Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  • Years of relevant experience: no experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares patients for examination; records vitals; performs phlebotomy as directed.
  • Collects data for assessment and discharge planning under supervision.
  • Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens per policy.
  • Communicates patient findings to Providers or Licensed Nurse.
  • Documents care accurately in the EPIC system.
  • Assists with scheduling, visit prep, and co-payment collection.
  • Performs department-specific clinical duties.
  • Handles routine clerical tasks as needed.
  • Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms.
  • Maintains positive relationships with patients and families.
  • Follows safety policies to ensure a safe environment.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Summary

The Medical Assistant role provides clinical and administrative support for patients under the direction of a Provider and/or licensed Nurse.

Responsibilities
  1. Prepares patients for examination; takes and records vital signs; performs phlebotomy as needed; administers medications as directed by the Providers according to policy and procedure
  2. Collects data that contributes to the assessment and evaluation of individualized care and needs of assigned patients, including discharge plans, under the direction of the Licensed Nurse
  3. Collects, processes, and submits laboratory specimens in accordance with policy and procedure
  4. Communicates patient findings and pertinent information to the Provider and/or Licensed Nurse utilizing appropriate communication/documentation processes
  5. Accurate and timely documentation of care within EPIC system
  6. Performs point-of-service activities such as appointment scheduling, visit preparation, co-payment collection and patient tracking as needed
  7. Performs clinical duties that are department specific such as POCT, hearing and vision screenings, and any other procedures
  8. Performs routine task and general office duties such as faxing, copying, filing, etc. as needed
  9. Cleans, stocks, and prepares examination rooms
  10. Develops and maintains positive relationships with patients, families, and colleagues
  11. Follows safety policies and procedures in the delivery of care to assure a safe environment for patients, families, and other staff members

Other information
Technical Expertise
  1. Experience in phlebotomy is preferred.
  2. Knowledge of and experience in medical terminology is required.
  3. Experience working in healthcare environment is preferred.
  4. Experience working in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required.
  5. Experience working in electronic medical record (i.e., EPIC) or similar software is preferred.
Education and Experience
  1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  2. Completion of an approved (valid) Medical Assistant Program, EMT Program, or Paramedic Program is required.
  3. Certification:Basic Life Support (BLS) training from the American Heart Association is required.
  4. Certification: Medical Assistant certification preferred.
  5. Years of relevant experience: no experience required.
  6. Years of experience supervising: None.
