Summary

Under direct supervision, assists clinicians with routine clinical procedures and tests in the exam room. Advises patients of preparation and testing required for exams. Ensures all pre-visit work required for the exam is completed and that lab and other test results are available in the electronic medical record (EMR). Delivers excellent customer service and strengthens the patient/clinician relationship through timely and informative interactions with patients. Improves clinical operations and efficiencies by providing efficient flow of patients. Provides clinical and clerical support to the practice and clinicians related to patient care. May provide direct clinical support to one or more assigned clinicians.

EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS

High School diploma or equivalency certificate (e.g., GED, HiSET, TASC Test) from an accredited institution or governmental unit, or a Medical Assistant Certification is required. An Associate degree in medical assisting or graduation from a medical assistant certification program is preferred. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) is strongly preferred. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) may be required based on specialty.

Experience

Typically acquired through a minimum of one-year prior experience in a clinical or customer service setting, as determined by the department. A bachelor’s or associate degree may be substituted for experience. Computer experience is required, including proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet programs. EMR experience and/or aptitude to master the EMR based on other technology experience are required.

Skills

Ability to communicate professionally and appropriately. Strong interpersonal, customer service, time management, and organizational skills are required. Ability to be a quick thinker and relate well to all levels of staff and patients is highly important. Ability to prioritize work throughout the day in a busy environment.
