Job summary

Inova Children's Multispecialty Fairfax is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant 1 for a full-time, day-shift role (Monday–Friday). You will support clinical operations by preparing patients, taking vitals, assisting clinicians, and helping with exam flow.

Minimum requirements include High School or GED, experience in a medical group or similar setting, and Basic Life Support within 6 months of hire; preferred one year of clinical practice.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Certification: Basic Life Support within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Performs general patient care responsibilities including checking schedules and organizing patient flow; recording patient blood pressure, height, and weight; accompanying patients to exam/procedure room; assisting patients as needed with walking, collecting specimens, phlebotomy, administering injections, assisting physicians/nurses; preparing patient for examination and treatment; relaying instructions to patients/families; answering calls and providing pertinent information.
• Performs pre-visiting planning as indicated by the physician for the vulnerable population as indicated.
• Fulfills clerical responsibilities as assigned such as sending/receiving patient medical records; obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc.; completing forms/requisitions as needed; organizing medical records, including lab results, progress notes, etc. to ensure the provider has all of the necessary information available during the patient's encounter.
• Fulfills environmental responsibilities such as setting up instruments and equipment; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits; ordering, sorting, and storing supplies; restocking exam/procedures rooms; proper disposal of expired medications and supplies; adheres to sterile techniques and universal precautions; follows guidelines for point-of-care testing, EKG techniques and phlebotomy.
• Communicates problems relating to patients and/or staff with the practice manager in an objective and timely manner.
• Actively participates in clinic huddles and quality improvement initiatives.
