Job summary

Presbyterian Healthcare Services is seeking a professional Medical Assistant to provide frontline support to providers. You will prepare patients for visits, perform MA procedures under supervision, collect specimens, and assist with documentation and referrals.

The role emphasizes teamwork, patient-centered care, and maintaining a clean, compliant clinic environment in a busy outpatient setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Prior Healthcare experience preferred.
• Successful completion of Presbyterian MA Advanced Skills Training within 12 months of hire.
• BLS (AHA, Red Cross or ASHI Healthcare Provider) required.
• Maintains current certifications in required emergency response trainings (i.e. BLS).

Responsibilities

• Perform medical assistant procedures under provider supervision after competency completion.
• Assist with procedures as determined by provider.
• Collect and prepare laboratory specimens.
• Provide basic foot care.
• May perform regulatory audits as designated by Clinic Manager.
• Assist with visit closure and care team collaboration.
• May perform scribe duties after PMG scribe training.
• Manage and maintain patient data for efficient clinic flow.
• Support clerical functions including scheduling and referrals.

Location Address: 2400 Unser Blvd SE Rio Rancho, NM 87124 Compensation Pay Range: Minimum Offer $16.79 Maximum Offer $27.67 Summary: Provides primary support to the provider by proactively anticipating the provider needs, preparing the patient for the visit using established patient preparation guidelines, maintaining efficient patient flow, and assisting the provider with treatments and procedures. Provides support for clerical functions to include scheduling, referrals, and prior authorizations. Performs activities to maintain a clean, stocked, safe, and well-organized patient care environment. Provides in-basket support with the EMR.

Responsibilities:

Direct Care Activities:

• Responsible for performing medical assistant procedures after completion of competency within organizations MA scope of work, under the supervision of a provider and PHS policy.
• Assists with procedures as determined by provider
• Collecting and preparing laboratory specimens
• Basic foot care
• May perform regulatory audits as designated by the Clinic Manger
• Assists with visit closure
• Participates with care team to meet patient care and clinic needs, working cooperatively with others to accomplish required work in a timely and efficient manner
• May perform scribe duties after completing PMG scribe training
• Performs other duties as directed

Indirect Care Activities:

• Responsible for Kanban system for stocking exam and procedure rooms.
• Maintains a clean, organized, safe, well‑stocked environment, and follows infection prevention and regulatory standards
• Provides support for clerical functions when needed to include scheduling, referral management, and prior authorizations
• Manages patients calls and in‑basket messages
• Schedules patient appointments according to guidelines. Monitors providers schedule to identify no shows for rescheduling. May include, but not limited to, placing reminder calls to patients
• Manages prior authorization for durable medical equipment, diagnostics, medications and/or specialties
• Manages referrals for diagnostic testing or specialist
• Manages and maintains tracking of Advanced Directives, FMLA, and other patient forms.

Customer Service and Caring Practices:

• Uses cares principles as well as good listening, oral and interpersonal communication skills to create a supportive, therapeutic environment, and provides responsive, compassionate care in meeting patient, significant other, and family requests and needs

Teamwork:

• Participates on interdisciplinary team to meet patient care and clinic operation needs, working cooperatively with others to accomplish required work in a timely and efficient manner

Visit Navigation:

• Prepares patient for the visit using established patient preparation guidelines, collecting appropriate and accurate data, and providing all aspects of primary support to the provider

Message Management/Test Result Notification:

• Responsible for taking patient calls and initiating Telephone Encounter(s) for the providers and care team.
• Trained in various programs to include but not limited to scheduling, prior authorizations, and referral management.

Communication:

• Communicates pertinent patient data to provider.

Equipment and Procedures:

• Uses equipment and performs patient care procedures in a safe, competent manner according to defined standards of practice.

Quality Improvement:

• Works collaboratively with the care team to meet process improvement goals and clinical quality metrics.

Customer Service and Caring Practices:

• Applies customer service principles as well as good listening, oral and interpersonal communication skills.
