Union Community Care in Lancaster, PA is seeking a Medical Assistant to support patient care under physicians, PAs, and NPs. You will follow clinical workflows and assist with administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Follows prescribed clinical workflows and participates in clinical and administrative tasks.
  • Conducts daily chart prep and participates in provider huddles; maintains professional patient interactions.
  • Greets patients, prepares exam room, and documents vital signs and medical history as appropriate.
  • Administers injections and medications as prescribed and per protocol.
  • Assists with exams and procedures and follows standing orders.
  • Performs tests such as phlebotomy, hearing, EKGs, breathing, and vision tests as requested.
  • Collects laboratory specimens and prepares them for testing.
  • Tracks tests and flags overdue results for provider attention.
  • Manages patient communications and follow-up to support timely care.
  • Ensures exam rooms are stocked and cleaned; maintains instruments and equipment.

Qualifications: JOB SUMMARY

The Medical Assistant carries out orders for patient care as directed by the Medical Doctors, Physician Assistants, and Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners. The Medical Assistant follows prescribed clinical workflows and participates in clinical and/or administrative tasks.

SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES
  • 1. Conducts chart prep for each patient daily and participates in daily huddles with the provider. Serves as a patient experience advocate by being a positive influence at all times when interacting with patients, visitors, and colleagues; communicates with all patients, visitors, and colleagues in a professional manner while keeping customer service a top priority.
  • 2. Greets and shows patients to exam room and prepares patient for visit with provider; follows SOP for documentation in the e-HR and Standing Orders appropriate to the visit type
    • Prepares patients for exam by measuring vital signs, reviewing screening questionnaires and accurately records information in patient chart. Addresses or alerts provider of concerns
    • Reviews and updates current medication list, problem list, patient medical history, surgical history, and family history, making changes as needed. Addresses or alerts provider of concerns
    • Follows established standards and protocols
  • 3. Administers injections and medications as prescribed by the provider and in accordance with protocol, regulatory requirements, and standards of practice.
  • 4. Prepares and assists providers with various procedures exams as designated by the provider
  • 5. Implements standing orders.
  • 6. Performs various tests upon the request of the provider, including but not limited to: phlebotomy, hearing tests, EKGs, breathing treatments, and vision tests.
  • 7. Collects blood or other laboratory specimens and prepares them for further testing.
  • 8. Participates in test tracking and monitors overdue results.
  • 9. Administers the in-box to ensure patient communication and follow-up is completed and Clinician time is used wisely.
  • 10. Assures exam rooms are adequately supplied and cleaned after each patient visit; maintains and cleans medical instruments and equipment after each procedure.
  • 11. Assists provider and patient in reviewing and revising care plans and assesses patient progress; follows up with patient between visits as necessary.
  • 12. Assists with proactive outreach for patients requiring preventative and chronic disease services.
  • 13. Collaborates with care coordination to communicate all pertinent information for promoting coordinated activities among specialists, hospital admits, and emergency department visits to obtain all necessary patient information as well as any other necessary information needed to ensure continuity of care.
  • 14. Actively participates in performance improvement initiatives to improve overall patient experience and quality of care.
  • 15. Handles all patient information in a confidential manner according to Union Community Care’s privacy and confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • 16. Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program or competency assessment and two years of on-the-job training
  • May be new graduate or have less than 2 years of relevant experience
  • Current CPR certification
  • English proficiency required
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

In order to fulfill the requirements of this position, duties 1-16 are considered essential functions of the job.

ORGANIZATIONAL INVOLVEMENT

This position is required to participate in mandatory all staff meetings, team meetings and trainings.
