Job description

Texas Oncology is looking for a Medical Assistant to join our team!

This position will support the Medical Oncology Department at our 4101 James Casey Street #100 location in Austin, Texas. The typical work week is Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

This position will be classified as Level 1, 2, or Senior, based on candidate experience.

Role and Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, the Medical Assistant assists physicians and clinicians with patient care duties in a clinical environment. This includes promoting efficient patient flow during exams and procedures, performing clerical tasks such as answering phones and maintaining physicians' schedules, and supporting adherence to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Escort patients to and from exam rooms and treatment areas.
  • Record patient data such as vital signs, allergies, medication changes prior to physician visits.
  • Obtain necessary patient records for treatments or procedures.
  • Prepare and stock exam/treatment rooms and order supplies.
  • Assist physicians with exams and procedures.
  • Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections as delegated.
  • Maintain disinfection protocols for exam rooms.
  • Answer patient calls and facilitate prescription refills as directed.
  • Inform physicians of patient reschedules and no-shows.
  • Perform administrative duties including typing, filing, faxing, chart preparation, and reception duties.
Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:

Level 1:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certificate from an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • 0-3 years of experience as a medical or nursing assistant.
  • Current BCLS certification within 3 months of hire.
Level 2 (additional requirements):
  • Minimum three years of experience.
  • Phlebotomy experience preferred.
Level Senior (additional requirements):
  • Minimum five years of experience in a hospital or clinic setting.
  • Current CPR certification required.
Physical Demands and Work Environment

Requires full body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Standing and walking for long periods, occasionally lifting up to 40 lbs. Exposure to communicable diseases and other hazards typical of an oncology/hematology clinic environment.
