Job summary

Premier Community Healthcare Grp. in Zephyrhills, FL is seeking a Medical Assistant I to provide clinical and administrative support within Behavioral Health Services. You will help with patient intake, vitals, exams, EHR documentation, and coordination of referrals.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assisting program, EMT, or Paramedic program.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Minimum 1 year of clinical experience; 3 years preferred.
  • Experience with pediatrics and adult patients strongly preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Epic certification.
  • Ability to travel between Premier sites as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients, obtain vitals, collect medical histories, and prepare them for provider visits.
  • Assist providers during exams and procedures across departments.
  • Document patient information in the EHR.
  • Maintain clean, safe exam rooms and manage room inventory.
  • Process instruments, including autoclave use.
  • Collect, label, and prepare lab specimens for testing.
  • Communicate clearly with patients, families, and care teams.
  • Assist with scheduling, referrals, and patient inquiries.

Job Description – Medical Assistant I
Unit- Behavioral Health
General Description

The Medical Assistant I provides clinical and administrative support across our Behavioral Health services. This role ensures smooth patient flow, accurate data collection, and high-quality care delivery. Medical Assistants contribute to a positive patient experience by assisting providers with examinations, procedures, and clinical tasks while maintaining a clean, safe, and organized environment.

  • Room patients, obtain vitals, collect medical histories, and prepare them for provider visits
  • Assist providers during exams and procedures across departments
  • Accurately document patient information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Clean and disinfect exam rooms and manage room inventory
  • Process instruments, including use of autoclave
  • Collect, label, and prepare lab specimens for testing
  • Communicate clearly and compassionately with patients, families, and care teams
  • Assist with scheduling, referrals, and patient inquiries when needed
  • Collaborate with clinical leads and peers to improve workflows and meet performance goalsSupport quality improvement, compliance activities, and community engagement
  • Ensure confidentiality and compliance with HIPAA
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, multitask, and maintain accuracy
  • Basic knowledge of clinical procedures and medical terminology
  • Ability to build rapport with patients of diverse backgrounds
  • Comfort working across multiple service lines
  • Proficiency in or willingness to learn EHR systems (Epic preferred)
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. regularly and up to 30-50 lbs. occasionally
  • Sit for extended periods and frequent use of computer systems
  • Travel between clinic locations as needed
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and clinical environments
