Medical Assistant - Hematology Oncology Department - 40 Hours - Days

Eligible for Full Time Benefits

Hours: 8:00 am to 4:30 pm

Location: Clinton Twp, around the corner from Macomb Hospital.

We are seeking a compassionate and empathetic Medical Assistant to provide dedicated support to our cancer patients. You will join our fast-paced Oncology Clinic, which is home to a collaborative team of 7 physicians and 5 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs). As an MA, you will be an integral part of a disease-specific care team, working closely with a dedicated provider to deliver respectful, high-quality, patient-centered care throughout every step of the treatment journey.

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of administrative and clinical tasks to assist in the delivery of quality and compassionate care. These duties may include, but are not limited to, greeting and escorting patients to exam rooms, obtaining medical histories, measuring and recording vital signs, preparing patients for examinations or procedures, and assisting providers during examinations or procedures.

EDUCATION REQUIRED:

High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

• Basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills preferred.
• Ability to perform a wide variety of clinical skills related to ambulatory patient care preferred.
• Problem-solving ability preferred.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills preferred.
• EPIC (Electronic Medical Record) experience preferred.

Additional Requirements:

• Graduate of a Medical Assistant program with completion of a formal clinical externship (160 hours minimum).
• OR Graduate from a Medical Assistant program without a clinical externship but with at least one year of clinical medical assisting experience within the past five years.
• OR Current Professionally Recognized Medical Assistant Certification with at least five years of clinical medical assisting experience.
• OR Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• OR Licensed Paramedic/Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) with at least one year of clinical experience within the past five years.
• OR Military-trained medical personnel with at least one year of clinical experience within the past five years.

CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED:

Current BLS-C certification upon hire or successful completion by the end of orientation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Works in a patient care setting with possible exposure to communicable diseases. Manual dexterity required to perform duties. Walks, stands, stoops, and may require some heavy lifting of patients and/or equipment.
