Job summary

Hawai‘i Pacific Health is seeking a Medical Assistant to join the team at Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children in Honolulu. The role supports physicians and staff with a wide range of patient care tasks and requires strong communication and meticulous attention to detail.

Location is Honolulu, with Day/Evening shifts, full-time schedule, and an hourly pay range of 26.60–28.00 USD. CMA certification and BLS CPR are required, with orientation performance assessments.

Job description

Kapi'olani Medical Center for Women & Children is Hawai'i’s only maternity, newborn and pediatric specialty hospital. It is well recognized as Hawai'i’s leader in the care of women, infants and children. With 253 beds, the not-for-profit hospital delivers 6,000 babies a year, and is also a medical teaching and research facility. Specialty services for patients throughout Hawai'i and the Pacific Region include intensive care for infants and children, 24-hour emergency pediatric and adult care, critical care air transport and high‑risk perinatal care. Over 1,400 employees and more than 700 physicians provide specialty care at Kapi'olani. The hospital is home to the Kapi'olani Women’s Center and the Women’s Cancer Center, and offers numerous community programs and services, such as specialty pediatric clinics, the Kapi'olani Child Protection Center and the Sex Abuse Treatment Center.

The Kapi‘olani Women’s Cancer Center is the only facility of its kind in the state and is dedicated to the prevention and treatment of gynecologic cancers, including ovarian, endometrial, cervical, vulva, and vaginal cancers. Kapi‘olani strives to provide the highest level of women's cancer care in Hawai‘i and the Women's Cancer Center supports a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to cancer care, addressing all aspects of a woman's treatment, from her physical health to her mental and emotional well‑being. In addition, the Center offers patients the opportunity to participate in state‑of‑the‑art clinical trials in collaboration with the Cancer Research Center of Hawai‘i and the National Cancer Institute. Our highly qualified, multidisciplinary team includes board‑certified, fellowship‑trained GYN oncologists, medical and radiation oncologists, licensed and certified oncology nurses, a gynecologic oncology coordinator to educate patients and assist women through their individualized care plan, certified genetic counselors and other support services.

As the Medical Assistant, you will form part of the dedicated team of physicians and medical staff that provide caring, thorough health services to our patients and their families. In this role, you will perform a wide variety of patient care activities to clients of all ages. We are looking for someone detail‑oriented and attentive, with strong communications and patient care skills and a commitment to delivering the highest quality health care to Hawai‘i’s people.

Minimum Qualifications: High school or equivalent. Completion of a Medical Assistant Program and/or equivalent experience. Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), OR Assessment Based Recognition in Order Entry (ABR-OE)from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), OR Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologist (AMT), OR Nationally Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency testing (NCCT), OR Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from American Registry of Medical Assistants, OR Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) from National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP), OR Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) from the American Medical Certification Association (AMCA), OR Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). Current American Heart Association Health Care Provider Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card. Must Be able to complete departmental competency assessment by conclusion of orientation period.

Preferred Experience: Six (6) months medical assistant experience OR completion of HPH Medical Assistant Program knowledge of Classification Procedural Terminology (CPT) and/or International Classification of Disease (ICD-10) Coding. Experience with electronic medical records.
