Job summary

Truman Medical Centers is seeking a Medical Assistant for the GI Clinic at University Health Truman Medical Center in Kansas City, MO. The position is full-time with a 7:30 AM–4:00 PM schedule and a 40-hour week.

Responsibilities include preparing patients, taking vitals, assisting with exams, vaccines, wound care, EMR documentation, and patient education. Required CMA/RMA/NRCMA/CCMA certification and current BLS; knowledge of POCT and radiology is a plus.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program is required.
• CMA/RMA/NRCMA/CCMA certification required at time of hire.
• Current BLS certification is required.
• Knowledge of POCT, immunizations, and injections is preferred.
• Proficiency with EMR systems and Microsoft applications.

Responsibilities

• Prepare patients and charts, check vitals, and set the stage for care.
• Perform hands-on clinical tasks: administer meds, immunizations, specimen collection, minor procedures.
• Maintain accurate patient records in EMR.
• Support providers, participate in team huddles, and help run the clinic smoothly.
• Educate patients about treatment plans and follow-up care.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Getting Patients Ready to Shine – Prep charts, check vitals, and set the stage for great care!
• Hands-On Clinical Work – Administer meds, give immunizations, collect specimens, and assist with minor procedures like wound care, suture removal, and more.
• Tech Savvy & Detail-Oriented – Keep patient records up to date in our electronic medical records (EMR) system.
• Team Player Extraordinaire – Support providers, participate in team huddles, and help keep the clinic running like a well-oiled machine.
• Patient Educator – Help patients understand their treatment plans, new medications, and follow-up care.

What You Bring to the Table:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Graduate of an Accredited Medical Assistant Program
• Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, NRCMA, or CCMA) – Required at time of hire and must be maintained.
• Current BLS Certification (or ability to obtain before starting).
• Knowledge of POCT, Immunizations, and Injections – You’ll be giving shots like a pro!
• Strong Problem-Solving Skills – You think on your feet and adapt quickly.
• Excellent Organization & Time Management – You keep things running like a well-oiled machine.
• Customer Service Rockstar – Patients feel comfortable and cared for in your hands.
• Tech-Savvy – Comfortable with Microsoft applications and EMR systems.
• Radiology Certification (if applicable) – If the role requires X-ray functions, you must have radiology training from your MA program or a validated competency checklist.
