Job summary

Independence Health System Inc. is seeking a Medical Assistant to perform direct patient care, including lab tests, treatments and medication administration under supervision. This role also supports clerical duties and acts as a resource for staff in the practice.

Essential duties include collecting patient data, preparing for examinations, ensuring accurate documentation, and entering demographic/insurance information into the billing system. Prior outpatient experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED, or higher education.
• Strong leadership, organizational skills, independent thinking, sound judgment.
• Ability to communicate complex topics to a diverse audience.
• Microsoft Office (Outlook and Excel) proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Deliver direct and indirect patient care in accordance with hospital/physician policies and protocols.
• Assist in collecting patient data, including vitals, weight, chief complaints and pain assessment.
• Complete patient care treatments and testing as ordered.
• Ensure completeness, accuracy and timeliness of documentation.
• Prepare patients for examinations, treatments, and procedures.
• Communicate information about problems to the physician or nurse.
• Perform clerical functions in support of patient care and office operations.
• Enter patient demographic and insurance information into the billing system.
• Enter diagnosis codes and charges into the billing system.
• Prepare charts for clinic sessions and obtain vital signs and weight.
• Maintain patient safety and infection control per policy.
